My solo travel guides for the over 50s
Welcome to my solo travel guides, by destination, mostly written from trips that I’ve taken over the years.
I’ve sorted most of them by country, but fear not (“really, we weren’t… “) at some point I’ll also sort them by alcohol and food.
Guide to France
I absolutely LOVE visiting France (“It’s because of the wine, isn’t it?”). With only a couple of exceptions, I’ve popped across the Channel at least once a year for over 20 years
Guide to India
India has a reputation for being relentless, and yes, it absolutely can be. But if you’re travelling solo after 50, and you have a sensible plan (and a decent hotel to crash in at the end of the day) a trip to India can be a glorious experience.
Guide to Italy
Italy is more than a 2 week family summer holiday in Tuscany, or a romantic weekend break in Rome or Venice. My guides cover the places better geared up for solo travel to Italy for independent people over 50 who want to go somewhere different, who maybe prefer food and wine
Guide to Spain
I love visiting Spain. Once you’re away from the concrete skyscraper tourist traps, it’s a country made for travellers who like to spend the day lazing about (preferably by the pool or on a beach), sit at a pavement cafe of an evening nursing an aperativo whilst people watching & judging, and then go out to eat well and late
Guide to Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is one of the great destinations for independent travellers over 50 who want a safe, luxurious, laid-back, great value trip in Africa. Maybe you want the splendour of Victoria Falls, or to see big game on a safari How about trying your hand at competitive tiger fishing on the world’s largest man-made lake? Zimbabwe is a must-visit destination in the heart of Africa.
